Fort Hays State University Graduate Scholarly Experience Grant
Spring 2020
Title of Project: Color Emotion Study
Project Description: The objective is to record the dominate emotion of each day for sixteen weeks of Spring 2020 semester through line, color, and texture and in word. In addition, I will research visual artists who expressed emotion through visual art; such as Mark Rothko and Wassily Kandinsky which will include attending Rothko Chapel in Houston, Texas. The resulting body of artworks will show case the progression of emotions through line, color and texture. The artworks will be shown at a public location to bring awareness to the practice of visual journaling of emotions and their relative effects upon the selection of line, color, texture.
Rationale: This Color Emotion Study will indicate that the process of journaling through art has an overall positive impact upon emotions and that emotion impacts selection of art elements.
Evaluation: I will reflect on the following questions at the end of each week: 1) What emotions were experienced this week?  2) Note factual events of the week. 3) What colors, lines and/or textures were chosen to represent each of these emotions? 4) How has the journaling effected my present emotions? A chart will be created to reflect these findings. The resulting body of work will be critiqued by international artist Shin-hee Chin who will be a Ft. Hays State University as a visiting artist in the late spring semester.
Outcomes: The resulting body of artwork will show how the process of artwork journaling impacts future emotions and how emotions affect color, line and texture choices.
